Andrew the Superhero

Alex’s Superhero Fund was pleased to provide financial assistance to the Bergen County family of Andrew, age 16. Andrew was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at the age of 16. The financial cost of Andrew’s medical expenses exceeded his family’s income.

Naeemah the Superhero

Alex’s Superhero Fund was also able to provide a helping hand to the mother of Middlesex County resident Naeemah, age 4. At the age of 2, Naeemah was diagnosed with leukemia. Naeemah has undergone two bone marrow transplants and, as a result, his mom has lost time and income from work. She has incurred significant medical expenses because of Naeemah’s continued close monitoring and care.

Olivia the Superhero

Alex’s Superhero Fund made a financial donation to the family of Olivia, age 14, and a resident of Essex County. At birth, Olivia was diagnosed with sickle cell anemia and recently received a bone marrow transplant. Her father is currently on an unpaid family medical leave in order to care for his daughter.

Giordan the Superhero

Alex’s Superhero Fund was incredibly happy to provide financial assistance to the single mother of Giordan, age 4. Giordan is a Hudson County residence and was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of 4. Giordan’s mom has two other children and is currently unemployed, but studying nursing full time. She hopes to obtain her nursing license in order to support her family.

Alejandra the Superhero

Alex’s Superhero Fund made a donation to the Hudson County family of Alejandra, age 18. Alejandra was recently diagnosed with bone cancer at age 17. Because of Alejandra’s medical needs, her mother is unable to work and as a result the family is struggling financially, unable to pay household bills.

Joshua the Superhero

Alex’s Superhero Fund was happy to provide a helping hand to the New York family of Joshua, age 2, diagnosed last year with Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome. Joshua has undergone a bone marrow transplant because of his condition and continues to receive close monitoring and care. His parents lost time and income from work due to Joshua’s medical condition. They are in financial need as a result.

Ariana the Superhero

Alex’s Superhero Fund provided financial support to the mother of Bergen County child, Ariana, age 14. At age 13, Ariana was diagnosed with leukemia. Her mother is the single head of the household and was forced to take an indefinite leave from work because of Ariana’s medical needs. She is struggling financially and we were glad to give her a donation.

Jem the Superhero

Alex’s Superhero Fund made a donation to the Bergen County family of Jem, age 4. At the age of 2, Gem was diagnosed with a brain tumor. The family’s financial obligation for Jem’s medical expenses has exceeded their income.

Tomorrow's Children Clinic Hackensack University
Medical Center

$2,550 was donated directly to the clinic for the following
much needed items:

1. A refrigerator for the social work and child life staff.
2. A stress relief program for both children in treatment and their parents.
3. A laptop and projector to provide What To Expect While Your Child Is In Treatment presentations to the parents of children newly admitted to the clinic.
4. A conference phone which allows the doctors and families to conference in professional interpreters for the families at the clinic that do not speak English and cannot adequately discuss their child’s care with the staff.

Tomorrow's Children Alvin Pharmacy Prescription Assistance Program

TCI utilizes this fund to help the families of children in treatment pay for prescriptions when the families cannot cover the cost for whatever reason.

2010: $1,000 was donated to the Alvin's Pharmacy Fund at TCI.

2009: $500 was donated to the Alvin’s Pharmacy Fund at TCI.

Camilla the Superhero

Alex’s Superhero Fund was pleased to provide financial assistance to the Bergen County family of Camila, age 11. Camila was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at the age of 9 and had a relapse in 2008. Because of Camila’s medical demands, her parents permanently lost one income and needed a helping hand. We were more than happy to provide that to this family.

Danny the Superhero

Alex’s Superhero Fund was also able to provide a helping hand to the mother of Hudson County resident, Danny, age 18. At the age of 17, Danny was diagnosed with brain cancer. Danny’s mom is a single mom and lost her income due to Danny’s medical demands.

Vanessa the Superhero

Alex’s Superhero Fund made a financial donation to the single mother of Vanessa, age 12, and a resident of Hudson County. In 2009, Vanessa was diagnosed with leukemia. Her mother was forced to quit her job to be there for her daughter’s treatment. We were thrilled to be able to help Vanessa’s mom with her daily expenses.

Sidney the Superhero

Alex’s Superhero Fund was incredibly happy to provide financial assistance to the single mother of Sidney, age 5. Sidney is a Union County resident and was diagnosed with stomach cancer at the age of 4. Sidney’s mom is unable to work due to Sidney’s medical needs. We were thrilled to be able to give Sidney’s mom some financial breathing room for a while.

Christopher the Superhero

Alex’s Superhero Fund made a donation to the Passaic County family of Christopher, age 3. Christopher was recently diagnosed with cancer of the leg. Because of their type of insurance, Christopher’s family must pay extremely high co-payments every time their child enters the clinic for treatment, which includes chemotherapy, radiation and physical therapy. We are very familiar with how costly co-payments can be for a child in treatment… even with good insurance coverage.

Malka the Superhero

Alex’s Superhero Fund was happy to provide a helping hand to the New York family of Malka, age 16, diagnosed last year with Hodgkins Disease. Malka’s parents lost quite a bit of income during Malka’s treatment. We are so happy to be able to help this family.

Kimberly the Superhero

Alex’s Superhero Fund provided financial support for a household bill to the Passaic County Family of Kimberly, diagnosed with leukemia in 2008. Sadly, Kimberly lost her battle with cancer in April, 2009. As we also lost our son, our hearts go out to this family and hope that our donation can ease their burden a bit.

Butterflies Pediatric Hospice Program

Alex’s Superhero Fund, Inc was incredibly thrilled to donate $1,000 to the Valley Hospital Butterflies Pediatric Hospice Program. This group helped Alex’s family take care of Alex at home when he became terminally ill. The donation will provide the following:

$1,000 allows Butterflies to provide Home Health Aide hours to help parents care for their ill child in the home several hours/days per week. For this size donation Butterflies can provide about 45 hours of Home Health Aide services. They can assist families in a variety of ways: one patient could get approximately 15 hours per week for three weeks; or 10 hours per week for four and half weeks; or several patients could receive services for shorter periods of time.

Oscar the Superhero

Alex’s Superhero Fund was very happy to pay the utility bill for the Passaic County family of Oscar, age 21. At the age of 17 Oscar was diagnosed with Leukemia and is currently dealing with a relapse of the disease. Oscar is in treatment at the Tomorrow’s Children Institute part of Hackensack University Medical Center.

Michael the Superhero

Alex’s Superhero Fund assisted the Bergen County family Michael, age 14, with some outstanding household debt. At the age of 12, Michael was diagnosed with brain cancer. Michael is in treatment at the Tomorrow’s Children Institute under the care of Dr. Thompson, who was also Alex’s oncologist. Our hearts go out to this family. . . we walked in their shoes just over a year ago.

David the Superhero

Alex’s Superhero Fund assisted the Hudson County family of David, age 12, with several outstanding household bills. At the age of 12, David was diagnosed with bone lymphoma. He is currently in treatment at the Tomorrow’s Children Institute at HUMC.

Baseemah the Superhero

Alex's Superhero Fund was able to give the Essex County family of Baseemah, age 15, some financial breathing room by paying several monthly household and auto bills. At the age of 14, Baseemah was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma and is currently in treatment for recurrence at the Tomorrow’s Children Institute at HUMC.

Crismary the Superhero

Alex’s Superhero Fund was able to cover three months of rent for the Passaic County family of Crismary, age 6. Crismary was diagnosed with High Risk Leukemia at age five. She is currently in treatment at St. Joseph’s Pediatric Oncology Center in Paterson, NJ. She is absolutely adorable!

Lorena the Superhero

Alex’s Superhero Fund was more than happy to assist the Bergen County family of Lorena with their outstanding utility bill. Lorena is 21 years old and is diagnosed with acute lymphoid leukemia and Down Syndrome. Lorena is under the care of the Butterflies Program out of Valley Hospital. Lorena is pictured here on her way to her 2008 prom. Go Lorena!

Francis the Superhero

Alex’s Superhero Fund was more than happy to be able to pay off some financial debts for “Frankie”, a young man from Essex County. Frankie is currently 19 years old but is unable to work due to his course of treatment for Leukemia at Tomorrow’s Children Institute at HUMC. Frankie was diagnosed when he was 12 years old but is currently in treatment for relapse. As you can see from his picture Frankie is very hip!

Clara the Superhero

Alex’s Superhero Fund provided assistance to the Passaic County Family of Clara Perez, age 17. Clara was diagnosed with pilocytic astrocytoma (brain tumor) at the age of 16. Clara fell and broke her ankle and needed a wheelchair. ASF is currently paying for the cost of that wheelchair as long as Clara needs. Clara is in treatment at St. Joseph’s Pediatric Oncology Center and as you can see from her photo, Clara is a beautiful teen!

Nicholas the Superhero

ASF was happy to cover a medical bill co-payment for the Morris County family of Nicholas, age 5. When Nicholas was 23 months old he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL). Nicholas is in treatment at Morristown Memorial Hospital.

Rowan the Superhero

ASF assisted the Bergen County Family of Rowan, age 12 with some outstanding household bills. Rowan was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL) at the age of 7. He is currently in treatment at the Tomorrow’s Children Institute at HUMC.

Anthony the Superhero

ASF was able to pay several months of rent for the Sussex County family of Anthony, age 8. Anthony was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL) at the age of 7. He is currently in treatment at St. Joseph’s Pediatric Oncology Center.

Mohammed the Superhero

Alex's Superhero Fund recently covered the cost of several months' rent for the Bergen County family of Mohammad, age 12, who was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma when he was 10-years old. Mohammad is currenty in treatment at the Tomorrow’s Children Institute part of Hackensack University Medical Center.

William the Superhero

Alex’s Superhero Fund was proud to provide financial assistance to the Bergen County family of William, age 3, who was born with congenital hydrocephalus. William is currently under the care of Butterflies Hospice, which is affiliated with Valley Hospital in Paramus.

Christian the Superhero

Alex’s Superhero Fund recently provided financial assistance to the Morris County family of Christian, age 6, who was diagnosed with ALL Type Lukemia. Christian is currenty in treatment at the Valerie Center of Morristown Memorial Hospital. As you can see by his photo, Christian is an adorable little superhero!

Sheila the Superhero

Alex’s Superhero Fund was pleased to be able to provide financial assistance to the family of Sheila, age 17, who was diagnosed with gastric adenocarcinoma. Sheila is currently in treatment at Tomorrow’s Children Institute and is a lovely young woman.
